Rodrigo Santoro in 300

Friday, December 29th, 2006

rodrigo.jpg

Rodrigo Santoro plays Xerxes in the movie 300, set to release March 9, 2007. IMDB’s summary is this:

In 480 BC, the Persian king Xerxes sends his massive army to conquer Greece. The Greek city of Sparta houses its finest warriors, and 300 of these soldiers are chosen to meet the Persians at Thermopylae, engaging the soldiers in a narrow canyon where they cannot take full advantage of their numbers. The battle is a suicide mission, meant to buy time for the rest of the Greek forces to prepare for the invasion. However, that doesn’t stop the Spartans from throwing their hearts into the fray, determined to take as many Persians as possible with them.

The movie’s official site says the movie is based upon Frank Miller’s graphic novel, and the movie combines “live action with virtual backgrounds that capture [Miller's] distinct vision of this ancient historic tale.” The website also has trailers you can watch, if you’re interested.

This is hilarious! I found this on an Italian website. Here’s how the Lost characters would look if they were on South Park. Check it out after the jump. (more…)

Sawyer turns kidnapper!

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

whisper.jpg

Well, actually Josh Holloway plays a kidnapper in a new movie scheduled for release in January 2007. Here’s the plot summary for the movie, Whisper:

When the ten-year-old son, David, (Blake Woodruff) of a wealthy New England socialite is abducted, his kidnapper Max Harper (Josh Holloway) and his seedy associates assume it will be a routine kidnapping in exchange for a large ransom. Unknown to the kidnappers, the shy and reserved David actually has a hidden agenda of his own, and a mysterious way of tapping into the minds of others. Soon, Max will wish that he had never kidnapped David, much less even heard of him.

Now, this movie I’d like to see. Holloway will probably play the perfect scary kidnapper. Though I’ve formed a soft spot for scruffy old Sawyer, I still think he can be pretty scary. I’ll have to check this movie out.

Jorge Garcia in indie film Sweetzer

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

jorge-garcia.jpg

Well, this film is getting rave reviews from fans on IMDB, but there’s no official release date. I’m a sucker for indie films, so I hope I can catch this one when it’s finally released. Jorge Garcia plays a sex addict named Sergio. I’m not sure what I think about that, but here’s what some are saying about the film:

From ajkirkwood: Saw the world premiere of this film just now and I have to say IT ROCKS! Awesome story of a really really bad day in the life of a writer with writer’s block. Just one bad thing after another happens and goes from bad to worse until the final resolution. The cast works together quite seamlessly and the women are hott! Well written, well acted and well produced. See it and you’ll understand. Well worth you time and coin. I sincerely hope we see more from Wayne Reynolds in the future. Wayne Reynolds plays the lead and he feels so familiar, and after the appearance of Jorge Garcia make it all click..it is reminiscent of LOST, with Wayne in the role of Locke. Great depth of character development all the way around.

From fatigcat: I was able to see the first public showing of Sweetzer this last weekend at the Providence, Rhode Island film festival and was into it. It has a great ensemble cast, my favorite performances were from Bryan Callen (hilarious with amazing energy), Jorge Garcia and from newcomer Jessa French. There were very funny moments throughout and yet the film was still able to have a very touching and rewarding storyline. The ending was satisfying & emotional and definitely crept up on us. Overall, I was able to be totally engaged with the story — even with the sound and projection problems the theater was having during the showing. Wonderful little movie - I can’t believe they made this thing for like 75 grand!

Visit the movie’s official website.

More Action Figures?

Monday, December 25th, 2006

charlie_lost.jpg

Rhianna on Lost-Media.com wrote this about new action figures:

Thought my fellow collectors might be interested in this: I found a listing for pre-ordering the series 2 of McFarlane’s LOST action figures that had names listed. It says series 2 will include Sawyer, Jin, Sayid, Desmond, Sun and Mr. Eko. There will also be an Oceanic Flight 815’s Crash Site boxed set available. No info to confirm this from McFarlane’s site yet though. For more info from toywiz: http://www.toywiz.com/mcfarlanelost.html

New Lost Writer: Brian K. Vaughan

Monday, December 25th, 2006

Comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan is joining the writing staff of Lost. Here’s what he had to say:

I’ve been hired as an Executive Story Editor by the fantastic television show LOST. As I’m neither an executive nor an editor, this is really just a fancy Hollywood way of saying that I’ve joined the writing staff.

I can’t talk about much more than that, so I implore you to please stop asking me what the island is, who the Others are, how Matthew Fox smells, etc. Still, I will say that I’m insanely honored to join such an amazing group of writers (some of their new scripts I’ve been lucky enough to read are destined to become the best episodes of the series), and I’m very grateful to Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse for having so much faith in me.

Lost makes TV Guide’s list

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

lost-3.jpg

TV Guide lists Lost as one of the best TV shows of the year. Here’s the write-up:

Admittedly, the first six episodes that aired this fall were too filled with torture and were not Lost at its best. But that doesn’t discount last spring’s revelation that Penny Widmore is in the real world and actively searching for Desmond. And there were a few other shocking moments, like seeing the suburban neighborhood that the Others live in, discovering that there is a second island, and watching Michael shoot Ana Lucia and Libby. Lost does twists and turns better than almost any other show on TV. Fans may quibble at the lack of information and answers, but trying to decipher the clues and figure out what the heck is going on is half the fun. Plus, Elizabeth Mitchell (as the lovely and mysterious Juliet) and Michael Emerson (as the spine-tinglingly creepy Henry/Ben) have been welcome additions.

The winning ending!

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

The winning ending has been announced by The Tail Section. Here it is:

In the end, we will learn that what the Oceanic crash survivors have been experiencing is just the latest in a long cycle of groups being lured to, and subsequently being stranded on, the island. This dates all the way back to the time of the statue having been originally sculpted. Over the rest of the time of the current series, each of the Oceanic crash survivors will take up a role vacated by an “Other” or other person. For example, Jack and Sawyer may end up leading separate factions, and Jack could eventually become the leader of the “good guy” faction (currently Ben) and Sawyer could become the person who trains capturees in one of the stations (like Radzinsky.) Over time, we will learn what is special about the island, why new “victims” from the outside world are needed, and how people on the island are able to influence goings-on off the island.

In the last scene of the show, the viewers will witness the crash of a new vessel–perhaps another plane, or a space vehicle, or a cruise liner, onto the island, where the new set of “Others” made up of Oceanic crash victims caused the crash and begin manipulating the victims.

I don’t know about you, but I like it! It sounds very plausible, too. I wouldn’t feel cheated if it ended like this. What do you think?

Update: Lost Nuggets Online

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

As I feared, with Day Break’s cancellation, we lost the Lost nuggets. However, I learned from The Tail Section that the remaining Lost nuggets will be online HERE. The first nugget will be shown tomorrow morning (Friday) at 8 AM Eastern. The site doesn’t really say, but I’m guessing they’ll be available for viewing after that time as well. We have to say a big thanks to ABC and American Express for giving us at least a little something to look forward to.

Time’s 10 Best Shows

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Lost ranks Number 4 in Time magazine’s list of the 10 Best TV Shows. Congrats, Lost! Here’s their description of the show:

TV’s most philosophical entertainment–or most entertaining work of philosophy–piled on plot curlicues like the toppings on an oversize novelty sundae. Maddening as its mystery could be (O.K., so the smoke monster was set up by the Others who live by the four-toed statue and–hang on, let me grab a pencil …), great writing, tantalizing details and ever richer characters made it a yarn worth getting more deeply entangled in.

I know that a lot of fans find the show growing more and more frustrating, but I just keep getting more interested. I have faith that the writers and producers know what’s going on and that they’re not going to let us fans down.

Bring it back early!

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

The Tail Section reports a rumor that ABC may be considering bringing Lost back early, especially since Day Break has been cancelled. Here’s what The Tail Section has to say:

The rumor mill says ABC is desperate to get LOST back early. This on the heels of the cancellation of LOST fill-in “Day Break” in favor of re-runs of George Lopez and According to Jim. The shows which will permanently (for how long?) occupy LOST’s 9:00pm slow, ‘In Case of Emergency’ and ‘Knights of Prosperity’ are suffering from premature buzz-kill having been pretty much universally slaughtered on their screener outings.

ABC has been taking a beatings on Wednesdays, this is true, and pulling LOST back early would certainly generate the type of buzz that increased viewer-ship is made of. The question is, will they do it? As usually, my emails to ABC media relations have gone unanswered (they don’t talk to us ‘blogs’), so for now my guess is as good as yours. But an interesting rumor, none the less.

I’ve been begging for Lost to return a little early. We have suffered enough without it already.

Evangeline Lilly’s Home Destroyed

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

There’s some sad news out of Hawaii. According to TV Guide:

The Kailua house that Golden Globe nominee Evangeline Lilly calls home while lensing Lost was consumed by a fire early Wednesday morning, says the Honolulu Advertiser. As of 6:45 am Hawaii time, firefighters had doused the flames but had not yet been able to enter the house. Per the Advertiser, there are no reports of anybody being inside at the time of the fire.

UPDATE: The fire, which burned for at least a half hour before a team of five fire trucks was able to quell it, left Lilly’s home a total loss, says the Advertiser. Lilly, who rents the place with two female roomates, was likely filming at a Waialua beach at the time of the tragedy. The cast of Lost is scheduled to break for Christmas on Thursday.

Naveen Andrews in Grindhouse

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

grindhouse-poster1.jpg

Grindhouse is actually two movies rolled into one. Quentin Tarantino’s movie is called Death Proof, and Robert Rodriguez’s movie is called Planet Terror. Naveen Andrews is in the Planet Terror portion. It’s scheduled to be released in the U.S. on April 6, 2007. IMDB’s summary is the following:

An homage to exploitation B-movie thrillers that combines two feature-length segments into one double-bill designed to replicate the grind house theatergoing experience of the 70s and 80s. In “Death Proof,” a psycho named Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) stalks and kills beautiful women with his car. In “Planet Terror,” a small-town sheriffs’ department has to deal with an outbreak of murderous, infected people called “sickos.” A gun-legged woman named Cherry (Rose McGowan) and her martial arts-wielding partner (Freddy Rodriguez) take on the zombie army. The two films will be fused together by fake movie trailers.

Sounds pretty interesting if you like the horror genre. How can you beat two feature-length movies for the price of one? I guess you’ll just pay for one movie… Maybe we should find that out before April…
