What the stars are doing when they aren’t on Lost?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

250px_Season4promo.jpgWell, right now, the program is on hiatus. But production has begun for the remaining five episodes of Lost so the stars are keeping busy with that. We’ll try to keep abreast of the show’s development so expect some updates and spoilers in the days ahead. But right now, let’s catch up on what the stars are doing outside of the show…

MATTHEW FOX

Vantage Point did okay at the box office. I haven’t seen it yet…I’m about to in a couple of days so I’m a bit eager for it. Up next for Matthew is Speed Racer, the live action adaptation of the Japanese cartoons, where he plays Racer X, the rival. If you haven’t seen the trailer, check it out here.

EVANGELINE LILLY

She will star in Afterwards, a film derived from a French book. It has a France movie release date slated for October. and there is no word of a US release date. The plot synopsis below c/o IMDb:

Nathan Del Amico, a brilliant New York lawyer who leads a life of professional success, but his private life is pretty dismal since he divorced Mallory, his only love. Until he meets Garrett Goodrich, a mysterious doctor who introduces himself as a “messenger.” He claims that he can sense when certain people are about to die, and that he is sent to help them put their life in order before it’s too late. Nathan doesn’t believe a word of this, but soon afterwards he witnesses some disconcerting scenes which seem to confirm the doctor’s claims.

NAVEEN ANDREWS

He will be seen in the movie, Animals, which is classified as a horror flick and is slated for release this year. Naveen’s character seems to be possessed with other qualities. The trailer is up at the official site.

HENRY IAN CUSICK

Henry will star in the movie version of Bryan Fuller’s canceled TV series, Dead Like Me. He’s taking over the role of Mandy Patinkin, as the head reaper, Cameron Kane. I actually like Dead Like Me and didn’t know Henry Ian would be in it till today! So, color me excited for this one! Movie trailer here.

MICHAEL EMERSON

He’s doing comedy for once and without even watching it yet, I’m sure he’ll translate on screen just fine. The movie is called, Ready? OK! and it’s for festival submissions only…IMDB has listed this as its synopsis:

In this poignant comedy, a single Mom struggles to understand her young son’s obsession with dresses, dolls and girls’ cheer-leading. With the recent death of her absent father, her wayward brother returns home, compelling them all to face themselves and what it truly means to be a “family”

Check your local listings for the release schedules of these films in your area.

Lost: Wrapping Up Season 4

Friday, March 28th, 2008

tvguide_32508.jpg Filming of the remaining episodes to Lost Season 4 is currently underway and the cast and crew have supposedly been to Windward Community College and the Santa Rosa Mental Hospital in Hawaii this week.

The show is currently on a month-long hiatus. It will return on the last week of April with a total of five episodes left.

The SCI-Fi Wire recently talked with the show’s producers and they have particularly emphasized there will be more flash-forwards to expect.

This just seemed like the most interesting way to tell the rest of the story of the show,” Kitsis said. “When we realized that we were only going to do three more seasons, it enabled us to starting thinking a little more out of the box in how we want to tell the remaining story that was left. The flash-forwards are, I think, just a great way to keep the show energized and tell the story in an interesting way. It was a brilliant idea by [executive producer] Damon [Lindelof].”

Also, TV Guide’s latest issue include really juicy details and spoilers of how the writers are going to wrap up the remainder of the season:

  • Evidently when it returns, we will actually see who has left the island and who has remained. Speculations on whether or not Aaron is part of the Oceanic 6 should be clearly defined thereafter.
  • There may be another episode with Michael. And his “pivotal” role at the end of the season will “impact” all the other characters.
  • We will know who is inside the coffin (is it Michael?) as well as find out which group has killed Karl and Danielle.

Fans Speak: Desmond Hume is their Constant!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Remember this Lost Popularity Contest I posted about the other week? In the earlier weeks, Sawyer had emerged an early favorite. But as the “drafting” came to a final close, it became a popularity vote between Sayid and Desmond.

And Desmond won with over 60+% of the votes.

5904 has taken part in it and have spoken. Desmond is THE Constant.

800px_4x05_Shocked_Des.jpg

Quite frankly, I can’t complain about the result. I have to admit, that as much as he has become a really significant character for this series, he has also emerged as one of my favorite characters (along with Ben and Juliet). Well, this is largely due to the fact that their episode this season has been one of Lost’s…uh…greatest hits. And then of course, since he is my new favorite, I had to get myself reacquainted with Desmond Hume.

Lost Memorable Quotes from Meet Kevin Johnson

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

4x08_MichaelDesSayidGault.jpg

LOCKE: Thank you all for your patience. I know it’s taken me a few days to… figure out our next move, but I didn’t want to do anything until I knew more about our situation. You deserve to know everything that I do, so… no more secrets. As you all know, Miles here and three of his people came to the Island about a week ago. So I brought him up from the boathouse to share with us exactly why they’re here.
MILES: We’re here for him.
HURLEY: Um, we kind of, like, knew that forever ago.
SAWYER: Well, all right then. Problem solved. How soon do we turn him over?
LOCKE: We can’t turn him over.
SAWYER: And why the hell not?
BEN: Because once they have me, their orders are to kill everyone else on the Island.
CLAIRE: Wait. So… what, he’s one of us now? You’re–you’re gonna protect him? He tried to kill you, John.
HURLEY: Yeah. He won’t even tell us who his spy on the boat is.
BEN: It’s Michael.
HURLEY: What?
BEN: My spy on the freighter is Michael.
SAWYER: I’m sorry. You mean the same guy that killed two women in cold blood to set this little bastard free? And then sold all of us out so he could get off the Island? That Michael?
LOCKE: Yes, James. That Michael.

SAYID: Hello, Michael.
MICHAEL: Not now, man.
SAYID: Yes. Right now.Why are you on this boat?
MICHAEL: I’m here to die.

Goodbye, Karl! An Exit Interview with Blake Bashoff

Monday, March 24th, 2008

PDVD_000.jpg

Is Karl actually gone? Blake Bashoff, who plays his character, thinks he is pretty much good as gone, as E! chats up with him after the latest episode aired.

Blake mentions that he will be in a Broadway show, Early Spring, for the next sixth months, so that means his calendar is booked.

They know the show that I’m doing, they’re big fans of it, and they said that’s an amazing opportunity, so they went back to the writers’ room and brainstormed. And I think that this was actually an idea that they threw out there early on.

He says that he remembers shooting that final scene of his with a lot of snipers in jungle fatigue around. Although we hardly saw a clearer view of them on television.

And he also feels we will haven’t seen the end of Danielle…

Lost Season 4 Episode 8 Meet Kevin Johnson

Friday, March 21st, 2008

So, what exactly was non-traditional about this week’s episode of Lost? That most of the story was Michael’s flashback…or forward? I don’t know what it is anymore. I don’t know who is telling the truth. Ben tells Michael, Widmore is responsible for the cover-up. The Captain tells Sayid and Des Ben is. Obviously, one of them is lying and the writers are genius manipulators and we love that we’re so sucked into this.

It was hard watching the episode when I’ve been sick the last couple of days. My headache turned to a full-blown migraine. (Hence the belated recap)…

Moving along….

This week, we finally find answers to what happened to Michael and Walt after they skipped the island in Season 2. We learn that Michael has become suicidal and that his relationship with his son is estranged.

Addicted to Lost? Here’s the cure!

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Incidentally, the Washington Post has an interesting piece on why Losties are also addicted to spoilers.

Now that producers have announced that the series will end in two short years, why can’t we just let ourselves sit back and be entertained? The answer to that lies, partly, in the phenomenon that psychologists and behavioral economists call “dynamic inconsistency” — our brain’s inability to reconcile what we want now with what we will want later.

“Right now, you feel this overwhelming desire to know the outcome of something,” says Jonathan Cohen, who researches dynamic inconsistency at Princeton. “In the future, when you’re actually reading the last chapter you wonder why you couldn’t wait.”

This field of study is still new, but Cohen’s team postulates that the drive for immediate gratification is located in our “lizard brains” — the instinctual part that believes our needs must be met now. The uniquely human part of our brains, the patient part that can recognize the value of waiting and savoring and saving, often loses out to the reptile, even now, even after all this evolution.

Blame the desire to read the last page first on your caveman ancestors.

Or, blame it on the Internet.

Lost: Memorable Quotes from Ji Yeon

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

SUN: Hello. My name is Sun.
DANIEL: Hi, Sun, I’m Daniel. Something I can help you with?
SUN: I’m two months pregnant.
DANIEL: Oh, you’re… Wow, that’s… Congratulations!
SUN: So are you here to rescue us? …. It’s a simple question. Are you or are you not going to rescue us?
DANIEL: The thing is… um, it’s not really my call, Sun.
SUN: And whose call is it? …. Thank you.

JULIET: Where are you going, Sun?
SUN: We’re going to Locke’s camp.
JULIET: What? Why?
SUN: Because I don’t trust these people.
JULIET: Whether you trust them or not, you can’t go there. Locke doesn’t want to leave the island, and I’ve told you… Sun, pregnant women… they don’t survive here.
SUN: Yes… You did tell me that.
JULIET: You don’t believe me… Look, I know that I have been less than truthful about certain things since coming here, but I promise you, Sun… I promise you, I’m not lying about this. After everything you’ve confided in me, I should at least have your trust.
SUN: Claire’s baby is fine. I feel fine. All I have are your stories that I’m going to get sick. I’m going to do what’s best for me and for my baby, because, no… I don’t trust you.sunjin.jpg

JULIET: She’s not going anywhere. Sun, this is a bad idea.
SUN: What concern is it of yours?
JULIET: (Asking Jin) Do you understand your wife’s medical condition right now? Translate for me.
SUN: No.
JULIET: Your wife is very sick. If she doesn’t get off this island in three weeks, she will die. If you let her go, your wife is in danger. Jin… Danger.
JIN: Wherever Sun go, I go.
JULIET: Jin. Your wife had an affair.
JIN: What?
JULIET: Sun was with another man. She thought the baby was his.

Lost: Michael is back!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

mich.jpg His name has appeared in the opening credits throughout the season, so it wasn’t hard to speculate Michael, played by Harold Perrineau, would be back on the show. This coming week is going to be an episodes centered around him and his alter-ego, Kevin Johnson. And according to reports, the episode will involve a series of flashbacks dating back to the time he shot Libby and Anna Lucia and released Ben from the custody of the Losties, in Season 2.

The press was recently able to talk to the actor and he revealed some more information about what has happened to his character in the last two seasons.

Lost: Why should they not trust the captain?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

This was the note secretly given to Desmond and Sayid by someone in the boat:

Untitled_2.jpg

So, why can’t they? What’s the captain hiding? Or is he in fact hiding something? Who is he?

His name is Captain Gault. We know from the most recent episodes, that the Captain is pretty straightforward but when crossed, he’s a difficult person to deal with. We know that he is strictly following orders from Charles Widmore, the man who has hired them to work on the freighter.

Captain Gault is actually a character from the book Captain Gault, Being the Exceedingly Private Log of a Sea-Captain, which was published in 1917. Lostpedia describes this character as “morally ambiguous and mysterious”. Suffice to say, when he is hired to do something, whatever that is and whether it’s for the good or bad, he does his purpose with precision and won’t have anything get in its way.

What’s your theory on the captain?  Why can’t they trust someone as straightforward as him? Was he the one lying about the cover-up? Are we really convinced it is Widmore’s boat, as he says it is?

And did that note really come from Michael a.k.a Kevin Johnson?

UGO Talks to Lindelof and Cruise on upcoming episodes

Monday, March 17th, 2008

The team of Lindelof and Cruise, the people behind the series, has hinted quite a few more information in this interview with UGO.

carl_damon.jpg

UGO: What episodes have you guys written so far?CARLTON CUSE: We’re working on 11, 10, and 9 sort of all simultaneously; we’ve got those 3 out of 5 in the works.

UGO: With the new schedule is the finale going to be a one hour episode or will it be two hours?DAMON: We are writing it as a two hour but they want to air it as two different hours because on May 22nd, which is essentially the last day of the season, they have a two hour Grey’s [Anatomy] finale which going to run from 8 to 10, and that is only going to leave an hour for us. It’s going to be designed as all of our finales have been, but not unlike the Lost pilot, which was written a two hours and aired as two separate hours , that is what they are going to do.

Lost Season 4 Episode 7 Ji Yeon

Friday, March 14th, 2008

baby3.jpg Alright…because I speculated that it was either Jin or Sun who’s gonna die by the 7th episode, I do not get brownie points at all from any of my guesses. It’s almost a given, anyway. So, I was half-surprised when it did unfold at the end of the story. But what caught me off guard, really? It’s the way the death was told. It had nothing to do with the pregnancy nor the island at all, nothing to do with my guesses. Or at least not yet, anyway (the island). Was it ever established what was Jin’s cause of death?

Before I proceed with the recaps… this was truly a very emotional episode for me. It’s not in the same league as The Constant (which I concede to be a big, big favorite), but I could relate to how much the characters are going through — Sun’s painful delivery, the anger in Sun’s face when she slapped Juliet, the look on Sayid and Desmond’s face upon seeing Michael, and the end at the cemetery.

…So many things going on! We’ve got people in the freighter, the couple in the island, Losties off the island (flash foward) and a flashback…whew!

Lost: Memorable Quotes from The Other Woman

Friday, March 14th, 2008

jul1.jpgHARPER: Juliet. I’m Harper Stanhope. Please sit. Today is just a meet and greet so that we can get to know each other.
JULIET: Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I-I really don’t think I need therapy.
HARPER: How about we call it “talking” instead of therapy?
JULIET: Okay.
HARPER: Good.
HARPER: Let’s talk. So you’ve been here a week. And what’s your least favorite part so far?
JULIET: I don’t like being treated like a celebrity.
HARPER: And is that surprising? You’re big news right now.
JULIET: Yes, I know. I guess I don’t like being the center of attention. It makes me feel isolated… alone.
HARPER: Well, maybe you feel that all eyes are on you, but you’re not a celebrity, and soon enough, you’ll realize that you’re no different than anyone here.
JULIET: Oh, I-I know. I-I never meant that I…
