This is probably a really bad idea, but here goes: Locke heard Jacob say, “Help me.” After Ben shot Locke, he asked him what Jacob said. We hear Locke cry out - repeating what Jacob told him - the words “help me.”
There’s a theory about Jacob being Locke - just in the future. One poster mentioned being able to stop the DVR so as to catch a glance of Jacob looking like an older Locke with longer hair.
So, when Locke hears Jacob speak, is he really hearing his own words from a few minutes in the future?

Richard knows Ben is no longer what he used to be. Perhaps there was some sort of island prophecy(biblical reference to Christ) that a “saviour” would come to the native islanders, Richard’s people. When he first met Ben as a child and he found out he could see his dead mother, that was the sign they were looking for. When Ben grew older and his rage against his father grew and he killed him, the island stripped him of his powers.
Ben is jealous of Locke’s abilities and he wanted Locke to kill Cooper thinking the island would strip Locke’s abilities away just like it did his. However, Richard intervened and gave Locke the info on Sawyer, thus preserving Locke’s powers.
Ben may have at one time been able to hear or even see Jacob, but he no longer can. This is why he was asking Locke what Jacob said to him. And now that Ben has shot Locke, the island will again take action against Ben.
As many other people have posted, Locke was NOT shot in the heart and he will not die. I’d be willing to be that bullet WOULD HAVE killed him had he still had that kidney there….Re: Ben out of favor with the Island? A coupe is brewing… Richard and his group are now realizing that Locke is the one they’ve been waiting for, not Ben. Ben is a false idol.

Two things stand out to me, after only being able to read only half of the posts (sorry if I repeat): 1. Something is really fishy about Richard – and not just because it seems he doesn’t age. He has this quiet patience and authority that is disconcerting, and apparently, he is very convincing. He convinced Ben to kill his dad, lead the Purge, and lead the Others; he convinced Locke that his dad had to die, and encouraged him to remain with the Others; he convinced Juliette to come to the island (after the unique death of her ex).
Also it hits me, that other than the instance when Juliette drank the drugged orange juice, I have never seen Richard talk to more than one person. Every conversation he has (specifically, on the island) is one-on-one and usually it is some pretty powerful persuasion he is laying down.
To me: Richard is a hallucinatory tool of Jacob.
Remember, Sawyer saw Kate’s horse some time back. Just more proof that the hallucinations are more than just individual manifestations.
2. Rousseau’s timeline may have put her on the island when they gassed the Dharma people. Didn’t she say she has been crashed on the island for around ten years? I theorize the death of her crew was simply a situation of wrong place / wrong time and the remnant toxins made her group sick. As we have seen with the Claire/Juliette scam, the ’sickness’ doesn’t really exist, but for Rousseau, it was very real. Desmond was told about the sickness, which is too coincidental to be completely fabricated, but ultimately the island was all clear after some time.

jkhami, I’m really liking your theory on Jacob being John’s twin brother, the “Bad Twin.” It fits so much. Here are my thoughts: 1. As you alluded to the Jacob of the Bible was a con man and swindled the inheritance from his brother Essau.
2. Jacob’s brother Essau was known as a “hunter” and one who preferred the outdoor life. John has been called a hunter and loves the natural state of the island.
3. John’s mother referred to his birth as miraculous - I don’t think we have the whole story about his dad being Aaron.
4. Jacob and John seem to have a similar connection to the island and there were several references last night to Jacob having the same attitude about technology as John.
5. The profile of Jacob, though very dark, could certainly be the same actor as Terry O’Quinn (Locke) and apparently the producers have said that Jacob has already been cast…
6. John’s last name is Locke which I know may refer to the philosopher, however I’ve always wondered if the producers were telling us that John’s character is KEY to the mysteries of the island. If he and Jacob were brother’s, that would make him pretty key.
