Lost Recap - Catch-22 (April 18)

by Holli

So, Desmond was a monk? And before he was a monk, he was engaged to Ruth, and he left a week before the wedding? Then, he’s “fired” from being a monk, and he meets Penny as he’s loading her car with the monastery’s wine. I felt these were all very strange revelations about Desmond last night. And I’m not too sure of their importance…

Desmond was also having more “flashes” last night, and he knew that someone was coming. He believed it was Penny, but it ended up being another woman, who called him by name. Des saved Charlie from dying again, but he seemed really hesitant to save him this time. Desmond said that he was supposed to let Charlie die, that maybe this whole thing is a test from God, but Desmond keeps messing with destiny. So, did Desmond’s saving Charlie mean that the outcome he expected (Penny’s arrival) was changed? Does Charlie have to die for Desmond to be reunited with Penny?? But it wasn’t Penny in the parachute… But would it have been Penny if Charlie had died? He said he was not trying to STOP something from happening, so does that mean he was trying to MAKE something happen? Any thoughts? It hurts my head…

The whole Sawyer and Kate thing… I know this storyline is not of the utmost importance in the whole scheme of Lost things most likely, but it’s fun to watch. It’s obvious that Kate has feelings for Jack… I just hope I don’t have to see a heartbroken Sawyer because I don’t know if I could take tough-guy Sawyer breaking down. I know he has too much of a self-preserving nature to ever let himself get attached, but he seems like goo whenever Kate’s around. Poor thing. But could they be any hotter together?? I don’t think so.

So, what did y’all think??

I think Desmond will finally sacrifice himself for Charlie when he realizes Penny is not coming for him.
I also think the others let Kate and Sawyer hook up because they want Kate to be pregnant.

    Yes, my head hurts too!

  2. AmyD Says:

This one was way confusing. Desmond’s whole backstory seemed way too random. At least we saw how he met Penny and why he says “brother” all the time, but otherwise? What was the point?

And speaking of random - did anyone else notice the flash of lightning that appeared right on Hurley’s face?? WEIRD. Was that intentional or an effect gone wrong?

Also, I slowed the promo down for next week and can’t wait to find out who that weird group of people are standing on the grass with tents.

  3. Curtis Says:

Did anyone else notice the framed photograph on the head monks desk as Des was leaving his robe on his way out?
It was just a glimpse but i am positive that the woman in the photo with the monk was the white haired woman from the jewelry store that seemed to know the future as well.
The background of the photo seemed to resemble the same one as Des and Penny had theirs taken on but not sure about that one.
99.9% sure about the woman though.

If you go to this website, they print screen caps of important scenes in the episodes. Included is the picture on the monk’s desk, which is in fact the jewelry store lady.
