Lost Recap - D.O.C. (April 25)

by Holli

Lots to discuss, so let’s get right to it!

Joshy C. mentioned (in my previous post) the parachute lady’s line: “Oceanic Flight 815? They found the plane. There were no survivors. They were all dead.” And of course, I replied just like Hurley did–”What??” So, what’s going on? Joshy gave some insight that it could be purgatory, but the producers have repeatedly shot that theory down. He also mentioned it could be the whole time warp issue coming to fruition. Any other thoughts?? I try not to theorize too much, but when they throw something like that out there, what else can we do??

Also, Mikhail’s alive??!!?? So his big, dramatic, bleeding from the ears, foaming from the mouth death was a big charade? It seems so since Mikhail’s the one who responded to Hurley’s shooting off the parachutist’s flare gun. Then, Mikhail removes the stick from the parachutist’s side, and Desmond LETS HIM GO!! Are you kidding me? Charlie has the right idea. Why are we continuing to just let these people go?? By the way, I loved seeing Jin pull out the martial arts on Mikhail. That was great.

In the flashback we learned why Jin’s “working” for Sun’s father instead of being a lowly floor manager. Sun gave in to Jin’s prostitute mother’s demand for $100,000, but she had to get the money from her dad. Sun’s pretty conniving, but I have to believe that her heart’s in the right place. She seemed truly happy that the baby is Jin’s. But Juliet told her that the women who conceived on the island did not live past their second trimester, so will we be saying goodbye to Sun??

Sun decided to trust Juliet. Not such a good move, I’m afraid. I don’t know what Ben has planned, but I don’t have a good feeling. And even though Juliet hates Ben (her words), she’s still working for him. What has he promised her?? What is he going to do for her?

Some lingering questions:
-Why was the parachute lady speaking different languages? Hurley recognized Spanish, Jin recognized Chinese (but he couldn’t understand it), and Mikhail recognized Italian and said that she’d said, “Thank you.” Not so sure I believe that.
-What does Ben have planned?
-Is Jack working with the Others?
-What’s the deal with Oceani Flight 815 being found with no survivors??

Talk to me!

  1. Joshy C. Says:

When Patchie told them that she said, “Thank you for saving my life,” she was actually saying something to the effect of: “I’m not alone” or “I’m not the only one.”

    Interesting…

  2. AmyD Says:

My guess is this parachute chick is one of the others and she is phase one of Ben’s plan and the whole “see you in a week” business.

I gotta say, Juliet is walking a fine line between appearing somewhat decent and a horrible Other. (and of course another great performance by Elizabeth Mitchell). I never know what to believe with her. Part of me last night thought she was sincere, with the whole “I hate you” message to Ben. But who knows.

My guess is the Others are trying to get the Losties to believe they have no chance of rescue. Remember the Juliet flashback when she was in the Communication hatch thing with Mikhail and Ben? Wasn’t something said on the news broadcast they watched about how the flight had just disappeared? I’m going with JoshyC. - some kind of parallel universe is going on here. A Bermuda Triangle type thing.

(first time posting - hi! and i LOVE this site!)

Amy D’s theory of parachute lady being part of Ben’s master-”see-you-in-a-week”-plan is fantastic. It’s like Naomi (is that her name? do we know that for sure?) is the “first wave”.

Considering this theory, I believe that Mikhail is possibly the “second wave”. Meaning, he knew that parachute lady would land on the island, he would be stationed nearby to run through the woods in a hurry pretending to stumble upon the scene. (Was she supposed to fire the flair to signal to Mikhail that she was on the island, and got too hurt to do so? Or did they (the Others) assume that one of the Losties would shoot the flair off themselves?)

Either way - the flair goes off. Signaling to Mikhail that she’s there/Losties are there. He rushes through the jungle, saves her as planned, and takes the phone. Was taking this “phone” part of the plan too?

Jin knows he stole the phone, they chase after him, get the phone back. Mikhail leaves without the phone. Hmm…?

I don’t know. I don’t feel that whole scene with her, and the Losties, and Mikhail is just for filler-sake. Something is significant in there…perhaps lots of “somethings” are.

So, Joshy, do you speak Italian or did you read that somewhere? I’m impressed either way!

I’m with all of you… As much as I’d like to believe that Naomi (I’ve read that’s her name, Amanda. And thanks for posting!!) is a friend of Penelope’s sent to save Desmond and reunite Des and Penny, I don’t think that’s the case.

And Mikhail responding to the flare and trying to steal the phone (I can’t believe I forgot to mention that earlier!) does seem to be part of the Others’ plan. I can’t wait to see what the “second wave” will be…

  5. Joshy C. Says:

I do speak Italian. I took a few years in high school, so i knew 100% that she didn’t say “Thank You for saving me.” I listened to it a few times to figure out what she was saying.

Regarding Patchie and the phone, i think he gave it up way to easy when Jin ran after him. I know that Jin kung-foo’d him earlier, but my thought is that when they return to the beach, Hurley will show Sayid the phone, and Sayid will tell thim that some component is missing and that it couldn’t work. They’ll tell him that it worked for a second when they first turned it on, and realize that Patchie must have taken something out of it.

I think something BIG is gonna happen next week and I can’t wait!

  6. Heather Says:

Wasn’t she speaking Portugese when she said that line that Mikhail interpreted as “Thank You”? She had a copy of Catch-22 in Portugese (Adril-22) with her.

My current theory is that she is there to keep Desmond from leaving. I think she has the picture of him because Mr. Widmore gave it to her and her job is to make sure Desmond isn’t found by Penny and her Portugese speaking friends who briefly saw the island.

  7. Joshy C. Says:

During the time she was bleeding, she spoke i think 5 different languages. She was going back and forth with a lot of them. At one point she spoke Korean, but Jin couldn’t understand what she said.
