Lost Recap - The Brig (May 2)

by Holli

This was such a fantastic episode, and there was SO MUCH information! We were just being pelted with information last night that I’m not sure I got it all. But I loved it! Let’s go character-by-character on this one, shall we?

If you didn’t watch last night’s episode, stop reading!

Locke’s father-What a monumental jerk!! I could not believe how he was remorselessly he was taunting Locke AND Sawyer. He deserved to die. I may be a bad person to think that, but I was happy when Sawyer “twisted” the chain around his neck and killed him with his bare hands. My sister, and viewing partner last night, was especially impressed that Sawyer killed him without the aid of a weapon. I have to say it was somehow more poetic that way. Also, Locke’s father thinks they’re in hell. It sounded to me like the Others staged the car accident, sedated him, and brought him to the island like they did Juliet. Anybody else with me?

Ben-I cannot stand Ben. Although, I love that he’s on the show! Michael Emerson is such a good actor, though. I loved it when Locke’s dad called him “bug eye.” Anyway, Ben essentially felt like he was losing power over his Others because they had heard about how Locke had been healed by the island, and they felt like Locke was the one who was “chosen” by the island. (I guess?) So, Ben humiliated Locke in front of everyone by asking him to kill his father, knowing that Locke would not be able to do it. As despicable as Ben’s actions are, however, he’s one smart little dude.

Locke-He’s becoming more of a con artist every day, and I’m not sure quite where his loyalties are lying. I’m guessing his actions are strictly selfish. He doesn’t want to leave the island, so he possibly needs to become the Others’ leader in order to ensure his permanence on the island? He stole Ben’s tape recorder (BRILLIANT MOVE!) and gave it to Sawyer. He manipulated Sawyer into killing his father. And he had a little smirk on his face when he left Sawyer and went to pick up his dead father to carry back to show Ben that he actually IS “the man.”

Jack-I don’t trust him. He’s really starting to bother me trusting Juliet as much as he appears to be.

Kate-I can’t believe she told Jack and Juliet!! I swear, has she learned nothing?? She’s so stupid.

Lingering questions:
1. Why was Sayid digging a hole?
2. Whay does Rousseau need dynamite? There was really no reason for her to be in this episode. What’s the point?
3. Why is Kate so stupid?
4. Is Naomi telling the truth? I couldn’t tell is Sayid was believing everything she was saying or not. By the way, I love Sayid! He’s totally the one that I would trust if I were on the island, too.
5. Can Locke really trust what Richard was telling him about Ben’s just wanting to embarrass Locke? Whose side is Richard on?
6. Whose side is Juliet on?
7. What does Juliet want to tell Kate??

Talk to me!

  1. Joshy C. Says:

    1. Yeah i was laughing a little at that. Seems like they just needed him to be doing SOMETHING, so why not dig a hole in the jungle?

    2. I was cracking up at that scene. “What are you doing here?” “What are YOU doing here?” I think that was in there for a reason and we’re gonna find out in the next few episodes.

    3. I have never liked Kate, and after that display, I can’t ever see myself liking Kate. She’s like a whiny little teenager. “Don’t you see that people don’t like you anymore??”

    4. I think she is telling the truth. I also love Sayid. He doesn’t trust anyone! I’m glad he’s on the good side.

    5. From that little encounter with Richard, I think we can get two things: A) The Others are NOT happy with Ben as their leader. He mentioned something about Ben being too worried about fertility and not the “real” purpose they’re on the island. That leads me to: B) I think that the Others want Locke to be their new leader. If we can believe what the stewardice and Richard said about him being so special, I think that we can infer that they want him in the group a lot more than Ben does. Does Ben see him as a threat?

    6. This one…In my gut, i think that she and Jack are co-conspiring against the Others. But I really have no idea.

    7. Either she wants to tell her that she’s not working with the Others, or she wants to tell her something about communications not working on the island.

I absolutely CAN NOT wait for next week!!! Ben Flashback!!!!

  2. AmyD Says:

Did anyone else slow mo and pause the preview for next week? Some seriously freaky frames appeared. The one I’m interested in the most was the shot of a door or something that said, “Roger- Work Man.” Roger was the guy in the van that Hurley found, right? That “Roger Work Man” bit reminds me of seeing an exhibit in an museum - like “Encino Man Using The Wheel” or whatever.

  3. AmyD Says:

And yes, I totally said Encino Man - Brendan Fraser at his best. =)

  4. Digg_Wailord Says:

    1. Probably just some routine island stuff, nothing important.
    2. I have a feeling this will be put into more detail in the season finale.
    3. There’s one born every minute…
    4. I think she wasn’t…but I unno. It IS true that Penelope knows about Desmond.
    5. Ben seemed heartless anyway. I’m sure that the truth was being told; why lie?
    6. Uh, the Others?
    7. Isn’t it obviously that she’s pregnant?

  6. AmandaH Says:

    !

I just watched it, so this may be scattered as I am. so. excited.

    One question first:
    - Is Richard the guy that convinced Juliet to join his research team in her flashback?

    Things I agree with:
    - I think it’s great that Sawyer killed con-artist/”real” Sawyer/Locke’s pop with his BARE hands. Amazing.
-Def. think the Others staged the car accident. They’re capable of that. They injected Locke’s dad with the something similar to what Juliet drank at aforementioned thingy place to get her to join the “team”.
-Agreed that Ben is a great character. Also agree that a power struggle is ensuing between Locke and Ben. I think I read somewhere (here?) that something big is going to happen between Locke and Ben before the season is through.
-Great move to take the tape recorder; I clapped for Locke.
-Sayid is who I would trust as well, although he does not trust anyone else. Haha.
-I do not trust Jack either. I do not at all. He’s not the same Jack. Nope.
    -Juliet - blah.
-Kate - I so watched the Sawyer/Kate relationship, but now I’m so scared because I bet a million dollars (!) that she’s pregnant, and just fired up/jealous about Jack’s new love. :/

    Okay, questions you posed:
    1. I hope Sayid digging didn’t have something to do with those two random characters that were bitten by spiders and buried! (Jk, Jk, Paulo and Nikki).
    2. I had a theory about Rousseau’s dynamite during the show, but I forgot. So if I remember, I’ll post another comment.
    3. UGH and Juliet was all too willing to get up a leave. But nooo, Jack was like “stay, anything you can say to me, you can say to her” get real Jack. See previous comment about not trusting Jack anymore.
    4. No, Naomi is not telling the truth. Her face when she suspected Sayid not believing her, and Juliet’s face when Kate “broke the news” to Jack say it all.
    5. Richard, Richard. I am not sure about this one. I feel the power struggle between Locke and Ben, but I don’t really trust the Others either. Hard to say thus far.
    6. Juliet is torn. She’s on both sides. We’ll see when the Others come in THREE DAYS to take the women!
    7. FIRST - Digg_Wailord - I thought Kate “was showing” when she walked over to Juliet/Jack, but clearly it would too early to be showing - UNLESS they’re super babies or something ;)
SECOND - I think that Juliet wanted to tell her something NEW and excited. Kate knows communication is impossible now, right? She was there when Locke blew the building up.

Longest comment, ever. I’ll stop now :)

  7. Holli Says:

Amanda- Yes, Richard was the guy who, along with Ethan, convinced Juliet to come to the island.

Joshy- I really hope Jack and Juliet are conspiring against the Others.

I can’t wait for next week either!
