Lost Season 4 Episode 6 The Other Woman
The sixth episode focuses on Juliet’s story. In the opening scene, which is a flashback, we see her sitting in the therapist’s office. Apparently, this is a prerequisite for The Others — they need to see a mind doctor since, as Juliet tells Jack, “The Others live stressful lives”. The therapist is a woman named Harper…who has really scary eyebrows.
Their first session is about why Juliet feels uncomfortable with her “celebrity” status in the island (she’s supposed to be a miracle worker, remember?). Mr. Friendly cuts their session off as Juliet needs to step out of Harper’s house. And there she finds Ben with flowers. He is gifting her with her own house in the Barracks. Juliet thinks this is not necessary, since she’s only staying for six months. Ben tells her, it’s for
her to feel at home.
Later we see Juliet crying in her lab. She lost another patient, someone she was trying to help carry a baby to full term. Just then, Goodwin appears with a burn on his hand. You may remember him from the earlier seasons (One Of Us). This is their first meeting. And as Juliet treats his hands, Goodwin knows she has been crying and offered a friendly ear, in case she needs someone to talk to. Juliet mentions she is seeing a therapist she doesn’t like and Goodwin tells her, Harper is his wife.
In the next few scenes, we see Juliet and Ben in her office, discussing about her work when Goodwin arrives with a sandwich for Juliet. It is established that by this time, that the two of them have become really close and that Ben suspects of the relationship. It is also established in this scene that Ben sort of likes Juliet.
Back in the island, in the real time, Jack learns from Sun and Jin that Charlotte and Daniel have gone somewhere in the island without telling them. So, the group planned to follow the two freighter people.
While Juliet is searching for them, the wind suddenly blows and we hear someone whispering. Just then Harper appears, like a ghost beside her. Harper apparently has a message from Ben. She relayed that the freighter people are heading towards the Tempest, a station used for deploying gas. It can potentially kill everyone in the island when set off. Harper tells Juliet, Daniel and Charlotte should be killed. Those were Ben’s order, who is still very much a prisoner of Locke in the Barracks, but apparently still knows and sees what is going on in the island (???).
Jack sees Juliet talking to Harper, when Harper suddenly disappears. And Juliet tells him what happened, who Harper is and what they need to do.
Daniel and Charlotte are almost to the Tempest when they encounter Kate, who has been banished by Locke from the Barracks. Charlotte lies to her about the phone running out of batteries so they volunteered to get some, but Kate sees the phone and it is working. She asks to look inside Daniel’s bag and finds some gas masks. Before she could hear Dan’s answer, Charlotte knocks her unconscious.
Meanwhile, Ben is still in the basement. Locke is serving him food and fresh clothes, when he convinces Locke to let him roam freely in exchange for information. They go upstairs and Ben shows him video clips of Charles Whidmore and Ben tells Locke, among other things, that Whidmore is the greedy guy who is out to exploit the island. When Locke asks Ben who is his contact in the freighter, Ben tells him to sit down because he is about to tell him everything.
Back to another flashback, Juliet is again in one of her sessions with Harper, who by then was asking leading questions. She knows about the affair, she has followed the two of them and has watched them together. Harper tells Juliet that she is very afraid of the consequences — Goodwin could get hurt. When Juliet tells her she would never hurt him, Harper replies that she isn’t worried about her hurting him, but Ben hurting Goodwin. Harper tells Juliet, Ben is smitten because Juliet looks just like “her”.
Later, we see Flight 815 crashing (as we’ve already seen on many episodes) and how Ben gives The Others instructions on what to do. But unlike the previous episodes, this time we see Juliet and Goodwin exchange knowing glances.
Weeks later, Ben invites Juliet over to what Juliet thought was a private party; but it turns out, it was a private dinner for two, orchestrated by Ben. They discuss about work for a while, but when Juliet asked Ben about Goodwin, he suddenly becomes stiff and curtly replies to Juliet’s questions.
Back in the island, Juliet and Jack encounter Kate, who was half-unconscious on the ground. Kate tells them about meeting Daniel and Charlotte and what they did to her. Juliet volunteers to get water for Kate, but actually went ahead to catch up on the two freighter people. Kate and Jack follow Juliet and Kate tells Jack about what happened with Miles and about the fact that the freighter people know she is a fugitive.
When Juliet arrives at the Tempest, she findsDaniel fidgeting the key controls, thinking he was setting off the gas. Charlotte stops her by beating her up (girlfight, whoohoo!) while Daniel frantically explains what they are doing is good and it’s supposed to keep them all at harm’s way. Daniel is changing the settings to prevent gas from ever setting off, because they know Ben was going to use this if he gets the chance.
In the last flashback, Ben brings Juliet atop a hill and shows her Goodwin’s body, who was killed in Season 2 (The Other 48 Days). Juliet is upset and lashes out on Ben who chillingly tells her, “You’re mine.”

Back in the Tempest, apparently, Daniel and Charlotte were telling the truth, much to the relief of Juliet, and Jack, as well as Kate who caught up with all of them and asked to be brought inside to see what Charlotte and Daniel has done.
Jack remains outside with Juliet and she tells her how she has come to the realization that Ben was controlling her all along. Ben needed the freighter people dead and he is going to win this war against them. Juliet tells Jack he isn’t safe with her. When Jack wondered why she tells him, “He knows how I feel about you”. Jack and Juliet kiss.
Back at the barracks, Hurley and Sawyer are playing horse shoes when they see that Ben is walking about freely, heading over to a house with fresh sheets on hand. Hurley and Sawyer are surprised at this, especially when Ben greets them with a, “See you at dinner!”

Hi, Lira. I like your site.
I think this episode give us a hint about Naomi-Desmond&Penny’s pic-Charles Widmore. I guess Naomi and the team is hired by Mr.Widmore, and they fake the plane that people found in Bali.
Jack-Juliette? Wow…, is there a love triangle? Wait.., wait, it’s a “four-angle” consist of Juliette-Jack-Kate-Sawyer.Haha…
BTW, this episode is not as good as the last episode.

Thanks, Poppy!
Yeah, this episode has dialed down the excitement for me, too.
Although, I did love Ben here. Saw a different but still a very creepy side to him. And he can still dish out humor while being creepy….that man is talented!

Actually, Poppy, it’s a 5-angle: Ben-Juliette-Jack-Kate-Sawyer, haha.
Ben has been great this season. He’s turned on a really whitty sense of humor that I love. I’m really glad they kept him on the show. Originally he was supposed to only be in a few episodes but the producers loved him and kept him on. Good for all of us!
