Lost Season 4 Episode 7 Ji Yeon
Alright…because I speculated that it was either Jin or Sun who’s gonna die by the 7th episode, I do not get brownie points at all from any of my guesses. It’s almost a given, anyway. So, I was half-surprised when it did unfold at the end of the story. But what caught me off guard, really? It’s the way the death was told. It had nothing to do with the pregnancy nor the island at all, nothing to do with my guesses. Or at least not yet, anyway (the island). Was it ever established what was Jin’s cause of death?
Before I proceed with the recaps… this was truly a very emotional episode for me. It’s not in the same league as The Constant (which I concede to be a big, big favorite), but I could relate to how much the characters are going through — Sun’s painful delivery, the anger in Sun’s face when she slapped Juliet, the look on Sayid and Desmond’s face upon seeing Michael, and the end at the cemetery.
…So many things going on! We’ve got people in the freighter, the couple in the island, Losties off the island (flash foward) and a flashback…whew!
Freighter
Frank Lapidus is bringing food to Sayid and Desmond who were locked in one room on the freighter. At the door to the room, Regina was sitting down, guarding it. But she seems dazed. Frank even had to call her attention to the book she was reading, as this was upside down. When Frank goes inside the room, Sayid tells him they need to speak to the captain of the freighter. Frank tells them the captain didn’t like the fact that they busted out of the room, but Sayid infers that the door was left open and he thought is was Frank who did it for them.
Later, someone slips a piece of paper by the door and written on it were the words, “Don’t trust the captain”.
The next morning, Sayid and Desmond hears pipes knocking. Sayid tells Desmond the tapping was apparently done on purpose. He told him about knowing that Ben had a man in the boat, a spy. But before he could decipher what the tapping meant, they were told by the ship’s doctor they could already meet the captain.
Outside the deck, they see that the helicopter is gone and that Frank was sent out on an errand. As Sayid discussed with the doctor, Desmond spotted Regina walking at the upper side of the deck rather languidly. There were chains wrapped around her body, and before Desmond could alert all the others, Regina jumps overboard.
Just then, the captain appears and tells them saving Regina would be too late. She was already gone even before she jumped ship, as the crew was suffering from intense cabin fever. He also told them his instructions were to keep the freighter away from the island but since someone busted the engines, the boat is on a standstill. Sayid asked him who the instructions were from and told him it was from Charles Widmore. He acknowledge that Desmond knew who Mr. Widmore was, but didn’t say anything further. Instead, he brought them to another room below the freighter where he showed the blackbox from Flight 815 and implied that everyone on that flight were dead. But since Sayid and the rest are still alive in the island, someone with enough resources staged that crash. And this is why they’re looking for Ben.
Later, Sayid and Desmond are brought to another room which was less than accommodating. It had blood stains on the wall. A janitor was nearby, working behind the shadows, and the doctor called for him to clean it up. When he approached them, Sayid and Desmond suddenly recognize his face. It’s Michael. On the boat, he introduced himself as Kevin Johnson.
Island
Sun and Jin are discussing about baby names. Sun tells him she didn’t want to do this, until they were off the island, but Jin insisted and knows she was going to have a baby girl. He would like for them to name it Ji Yeon.
The next day, Sun and Jin are with Kate, who was telling them how Charlotte hit her in the head when they went to the “poison gas factory” and that Juliet lied about it by calling it simply the power station. Sun pointblank asked Kate if she thought the freighter people were there to rescue them and Kate says she didn’t hear them talking about any rescue the whole time she has been with them.
Later, Sun introduces herself to Daniel and tells him she is two months pregnant. Daniel didn’t know what that meant, so Sun directly asks him if they were going to get rescued, when she couldn’t get an answer from Daniel, for a very simple question, she thanks him and then leaves.
Jin is preparing breakfast while talking to Jack, who compliments him on his already improving English. Sun approaches them and after an exchange of pleasantries with Jack, she secretly tells Jin they have to go pack, for they were going to Locke’s.

With Kate’s help, they prepare themselves for the barracks. As Sun was rummaging through the medicines, Juliet catches her and forbids her to leave. She claims she has to get off the island if she wants to live. When Sun wouldn’t listen, Juliet tries to persuade Jin and tells him how sick his wife was. But Jin tells her he will follow his wife wherever she is going. To stop them from leaving, Juliet blurts out the affair Sun has had in the past, stopping Jin on his tracks. Sun is mortified and slaps her. And Jin runs off to the beach. Sun catches up with him and apologizes for what he has learned. Bernard sees Jin leaving with his fish hooks and asks if he can come with up. Noticing that he was in a middle of the couple’s fight, he apologizes, but Jin told him it was okay to come along. While fishing in the water, Bernard relates to Jin some words of wisdom, which seemed to have opened up Jin’s point of view.
Later, he tells Sun he knows the affair was because of him. He was a different man before they got to the island. And the two promised their undying love and devotion for each other.
Jin asked Sun if the baby was his and Sun replied that it was.
Flashback
It’s the year of the Dragon, and Jin is at a toy store looking for a stuffed panda. He is on his way to the hospital’s maternity ward and someone keeps calling him to be there faster. He hails a cab and has the panda bear inside, but got another call on his cellphone. While talking, a pedestrian knocks his cellphone down and is crushed by vehicles on the street. To make matters worse, the cab with his panda inside sped off with another passenger. He hurriedly goes back to the toy store and demands another panda, even if he pays too much for it.
At the maternity ward, Jin introduces himself to be someone from Mr. Paik’s office who was sent to wish the ambassador well for becoming a grandfather. He gifted the ambassador with the Panda bear and tells him Mr. Paik is eager to do business with the ambassador. The Panda was their token of gratitude. As he heads out the hospital, the nurse asked why he is leaving right away. And he tells her it’s not his baby, he is only newly married.
Flashforward
Sun, heavy with her child, is experiencing pain and is rushed to the hospital, where the nurses know she’s one of the Oceanic Six. The nurses remove her jewelry as she is about to go into labor, but she insisted they keep her wedding ring on her. The doctor instructs some sedatives for her and asked her who they should call. She told them to call her husband. Sun kept crying for him and the baby is already in distress. The doctor was supposed to do an emergency C-section but Sun wanted them to wait for Jin to arrive. But the baby was already crowning, and Sun gives birth the normal way to a beautiful baby girl.
Post-pregnancy and a slimmer Sun this time, she prepares herself for a visitor. It’s Hurley, and she shows him the baby named Ji Yeon. Hurley says she looks like Jin. And then the three of them head to where Jin was, who is now buried in a cemetery. He died Sept 22, 2004 (the pilot episode of Lost).

Ok…i’m a little confused. Now we know for sure 5 of the Oceanic 6: Hurley, Jack, Kate, Sayid, and Sun. But it looks like Jin is either dead, or maybe left behind on the island. I think it’s possible that the main character that dies next week could be Jin, or that maybe to get Sun off the island, Jin needs to stay behind for some reason. But the questions is…who is the 6th? Are we counting Aaron?

On Aaron - I would hope not. But most everyone has assumed he’s it.
I don’t think Jin is dead, as in dead, too. I’m more of the theory that he didn’t get off the island. And that tombstone just serves as a representation or connection for Sun.

I believe that Jin isnt dead, he might still in the island. Perhaps he made a deal to get sun off the island. the tombstone may be just a cover up, regarding that the plane itself (Oceanic 815 in Bali) was a fake that Ben has made.
I’m a bit intrigued with Sun’s father. We knew that Penny’s father as a bussinessman has something to do with the people on the freighter, now i’m starting to wonder does Sun’s father (as a powerful bussinessman) has a connection with these men (Ben’s team and c. Widmore’s team)??
Anyway, i watched again the episode 1, and there’s a line that i dont understand (I’m an Indonesian, and i’m sorry if my english is still poor) where Hurley said “I’m sorry i went with locke” and then Jack reply “….water under the bridge”. Can someone please explain what does it mean? is it a metaphor or something?
Thanks…

Hey, poppy! The term “water under the bridge”? It means it’s a non-issue, that it’s all in the past and that it’s all forgiven.

[…] And that’s exactly how I feel about Thursday’s episode, “Ji Yeon.”* […]
