Lost Season 4 Episode 8 Meet Kevin Johnson
So, what exactly was non-traditional about this week’s episode of Lost? That most of the story was Michael’s flashback…or forward? I don’t know what it is anymore. I don’t know who is telling the truth. Ben tells Michael, Widmore is responsible for the cover-up. The Captain tells Sayid and Des Ben is. Obviously, one of them is lying and the writers are genius manipulators and we love that we’re so sucked into this.
It was hard watching the episode when I’ve been sick the last couple of days. My headache turned to a full-blown migraine. (Hence the belated recap)…
Moving along….
This week, we finally find answers to what happened to Michael and Walt after they skipped the island in Season 2. We learn that Michael has become suicidal and that his relationship with his son is estranged.
But first… back in the island, on real time, the Losties at the Barracks are holding a general meeting. Locke even had Miles and Ben with them because he wants to keep no more secrets. He tells everybody the reason why the freighter is there, that they are after Ben. When Sawyer asks why they just don’t surrender Ben to them, Ben interjects that they will all be killed once the freighter people have captured him. Locke also told everyone that Ben’s spy on the boat is Michael.
After the meeting, Ben convinces his daughter, along with Karl and Danielle, to go to “The Temple” to separate from the group and proceed to the Temple, where the rest of The Others supposedly are. Ben is sure that Alex would be in danger if captured, because the freighter people would sure use her to get to him. They are convinced of this and hike off to the Temple.
MEETING KEVIN JOHNSON
Michael is writing a note meant for Walt in his apartment. He then leaves the house and drives into the night and heads to the pier, where he tries to crash his car onto a crate. He wakes up at a hospital to find Libby, one of the women he killed in Season 2 so he could free Ben who was held up by the Losties. Michael screams at the sight of Libby and she vanishes and Michael wakes up from what looks like a nightmare. The real nurse comes in and tells him what happened to him. She also asked if Michael would like her to call Walt, whose name was in the note found on Michael’s lapel when he crashed. Michael tells the nurse no.

When he is discharged from the hospital, Michael visits his mother’s house because apparently that’s where Walt lives now. His mother tells him he can’t see him, that he gave up his right and that Walt refuses to see him. So, Michael leaves, but not before he caught a glimpse of Walt looking out the window. He goes to a pawnshop next and exchanges the watch he got from Jin for a gun. He proceeds to an alley and tries to shoot himself. But just then, Mr. Friendly or Tom appears and tells him the island isn’t going to let him die. Not while he’s got work to do for them. Michael refused to believe him but Tom tells Michael where he can be found in case he changes his mind about helping them out.
Later that night, as he was once again trying to kill himself (but the gun keeps on jamming), he saw a news on TV about the discovery of Flight 815 and its dead passengers. Wanting to get answers, he does decide to see Tom, who was enjoying the company of a man named Arturo (I wouldn’t have figured out Mr. Friendly is gay!).
Tom tells him about Mr. Widmore. He provides Michael with proof, documents to support his claim. He also tells Michael what he needs to do. He gave him his fake passport, with the name Kevin Johnson which he will use for his job at Widmore’s freighter. He also gave him the instruction to kill everyone on board it.
When Michael arrives at the freighter, he meets Naomi and Minkowski. Naomi tells him a crate has arrived for him and then later, receives a call from Tom on his cellphone, making sure everything is in order. He ditches the cellphone in the water. He also encounters Miles who nonchalantly tells him he isn’t really Kevin Johnson and that everyone aboard the boat has a secret and a reason for being there. Michael also got friendly with Frank Lipidus, who tells him he knows that the wreckage is a cover up and that there could be survivors out there for them to rescue.
Later, when the freighter is already in mid-sea, Michael sees some of the crew members were target shooting. He realizes that this could be more than just a rescue mission. In the privacy of his room, he opens the crate he got the first day he arrived on the boat and discovers there is a bomb inside it. While he’s trying to figure out what to do, Libby’s “ghost” appears again and tells him not to do it. But Michael goes ahead and pushes the execute button, only to find a note that says, “NOT YET”.
Minkowski later tells Michael there is a call for him in the radio room, but Michael wonders who it would have to be since no one knows where he is. Minowski tells him it’s from a Walt and Michael rushes to the phone. But as it turns out, it was Ben calling him from the island. Ben explains that some people on the boat shouldn’t be harmed or killed because they are innocent. The fake bomb was actually just to show Michael that he is a man with conscience, unlike Widmore. Ben tells him, he knows there is a war, but he’s not about to kill innocent people. He then orders Michael to give him a list of names of everyone onboard, as well as disable the radios and engines.
All these things were what Michael relayed to Sayid and Desmond who cornered him at the freighter in the present/real time.
But Sayid refuses to believe him and outs him to The Captain saying that Michael is not who he says he is, but rather, he is a traitor and he has been working for Ben.
Back in the island, as Alex, Karl and Danielle take a break from their hike to the Temple, they are suddenly attacked by unknown people. Karl is hit, killing him instantly, Danielle is also hit, leaving Alex to surrender and yell to the attackers, “I’m Ben’s daughter!”
