Lost Season 4 Episode 9 The Shape of Things To Come

So we now have the answer to why Sayid has joined forces with Ben (Episode: The Economist). He wants to avenge his wife because Ben told him it was Widmore who is to blame for her death.
We also know that Widmore and Ben’s “war” started years ago, with the claim to the island and now because the rule has changed, their families have also become pawns. We now see a clear struggle between these two. I’m also beginning to see the correlation between fathers and families in this story, a fact that has long been left unexplored.
In the island
A body washes ashore. His throat was slit but none from the Losties recognizes who he is. The freighter people though know that it’s the doctor. But Charlotte and Daniel look just as surprise as the Losties are upon seeing the body.
Using Morse code, Daniel tries to contact the freighter asking what happened to the doctor. When they answered back, also in Morse code, he tells Jack that the freighter didn’t answer the question but there’s supposed to be a chopper coming for them in the morning. Except, Bernard understood Morse code and said that Daniel is lying. With Jack angry at him, Daniel caves and says they were never really planning on a rescue.
Jack has been suffering from a stomach flu the whole time, it seems.
In the barracks
When the show last left, Alex, Karl and Danielle were attacked by men in fatigues, killing Karl and Danielle. Alex eventually surrenders to these men and they order her to deactivate the security on those deadly perimeter fences we saw in the last season.
While playing a game of Risk, Ben’s house phone suddenly rang and Locke went to answer it, hearing only a computerized voice saying Code 14J over and over. When they told Ben about it minutes later, he scrambles and blocks off all the entrance to his house. He tells Locke to prepare for an attack. He admits to him he is afraid but tells Locke to stay close to him, because there’s a great chance Locke won’t be harmed. The men after Ben want him alive.
Sawyer fetches Claire in her house so they can protect her as well, but the attacks has began, killing other unknown Losties. While Sawyer managed to dodge the bullets, Claire’s house was torn to bits by an RPG. When things have calmed, Sawyer continues his search for Claire and finds her unconscious under a pile of rubbles. Sawyer carries her and hurries back to Ben’s.
The doorbell rings and they find Miles outside. He has a walkie-talkie with him. They want to talk to Ben, apparently. When Ben refused, Miles tells him that they have his daughter.
The leader of the attack team introduces himself to Ben as Martin Keamy although Ben already knows all about him.
Keamy tells Ben to surrender. But when he refuses, Keamy sends for his daughter and helds a gun to her head. Alex pleads to her father but Ben stood firm saying they can all turn around and return to the freighter and assures Alex everything is under control. He also tells Keamy Alex is not his daughter and it won’t matter if he killed her. But before he can even finish the sentence, Keamy shot Alex in the head. Ben is stunned. And then later said the rules have been changed.
Ben vanishes into secret walls inside the house, leaving Locke, Sawyer, Hurley and Claire to wonder what it is going to happen next. Ben then emerges from the secret area and tells everyone where to go when he says it is ready.
Then they feel the earth shake and hear rumblings. The black smoke has returned and heads straight to the attack team lead by Keamy and kills the whole team.
They run away from the barracks, but not after Ben says his final goodbye to his daughter.
Frustrated at what has just happened, Sawyer tells Locke he is going back to the beach and says he’s bringing Claire with him. Miles also wants to go with Sawyer. Hurley was also supposed to go with them but Locke demands he stay behind. Ben has told Locke earlier, they need Hurley because he knows where Jacob’s cabin is. They were going to go to him for help. Things between Locke and Sawyer become heated. Hurley calms them down and tells Sawyer he will go with Locke but he will catch with them on the beach later.
Fast Forward
It is 2005, and Ben wakes up in the Sahara desert wearing a Dharma uniform, with a cut deep in his arm. Two Bedouins stop him on his tracks and Ben tries to talk to them in English. They search his pocket and found what looks like a harmless gadget, which turned out to be a knife. Ben swoops down and in a split-second, kills the Bedouins.
Later, he checks into a hotel and introduces himself as Dean Moriarty, a preferred guest. As he was about to go to his room, Ben sees a clip on TV. It’s Sayid, and he’s being followed by the press as he is one of the Oceanic 6. Apparently, on that day, he was headed out to bury his wife.
While the burial procession was underway, Ben was hidden off somewhere carrying a camera with him. He snaps the photo of a man who was a bystander, watching the procession. He also snaps a photo of Sayid, who manages to catch him doing it. When an angry Sayid catches up to him, he ask Ben how he got off the island. Ben explains he used Desmond’s boat and chartered a plane from Fiji. He also tells Sayid that there’s a man out there responsible for the death of his wife. He shows Sayid the photo.
Later, Ben comes face to face with this very same man and tells him he wants to send Widmore a message. But before he could tell him what it is, Sayid shot the man from the back.
It’s at this point that Ben tells Sayid to let go of his anger as this is a war between him and Widmore. But Sayid wants more revenge. Ben tells him he will be contacted when it’s time to kill someone again.
In London, Ben enters into a building where he tells the doorman he is there to see a Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick but instead goes straight to the penthouse to confront Widmore. Ben accuses Widmore for the death of his daughter and tells him he is coming for his (Penny). Widmore tells him he will never find her and Ben also replies he will never find the island.
And so there it is — the war is on.

Issues with this episode:
1. Where did Sawyer suddenly get the fatherly sense of care for Claire?
2. Suddenly the phone is broken? How did that happen? Now they’re using morse code via the device. I don’t recall it malfunctioning.
3. The attackers kill three survivors of the plane crash in a row, within about five seconds - how many more of these pawns are there left to dispense with (it really galls me how some of these people have never been seen or introduced before, even fleetingly, after so many episodes, then they conveniently appear for five seconds and get shot.
4. Anyone surprised with how BANG, suddenly there’s a crack force of soldiers on the island, without any explanation for how they got there? Were they hiding on the boat earlier? Are you trying to tell me a pilot and about six soldiers can all fit on that small helicopter - and if they could, why didn’t the helicopter have an episode on landing this time?

this lost series is really hard to understand at first but then
you realize what is happening. It starts on the island then
flash backs of them all in cities. I am understanding these
series very good now. I really enjoy watching them.
