Primetime Emmy’s this Sunday

by Peggie Brott

Sunday September 16th is the Primetime Emmy Awards. Let’s take a look-see how many nods Lost got.
Umm…. 4. Four nominations in all of the catagories. Isn’t that disappointing? I’m terribly saddened. I might not even watch them. Who am I kidding? I probably will watch because some of my other favorite shows are nominated like 24, The Office, Entourage, and Rescue Me. Mostly, I’m dying to see just how many wins The Sopranos will get. Is it just me, or does a show seem to get the most wins after their series finale?
Since Lost didn’t get near as many nods as we all hopped they would, I decided to take it upon myself to add a few nominations to some of the catagories that I got straight from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Prime Time Emmy Awards website.

Outstanding Comedy Series
Um… I guess I can see why Lost wasn’t nominated for this catagory, although there are definitely some comedic moments provided mostly by our good friend Hurley.

Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series
Yes! A nomination!
Congrats to Jack Bender, director of Through the Looking Glass

Outstanding Directing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Program
Am I the only one who would enjoy seeing Lost: The Island Musical (which would of course be directed by Kenny Ortega of High School Musical fame)?

Outstanding Drama Series
Dear Emmy people, This is OUR catagory! Come on!
Let’s see who actually made it this year:
Boston Legal
Grey’s Anatomy
Heros
House
The Sopranos
Gee, I wonder who will win this one?
Next year! We will prevail next year! (am I taking this a little too seriously?)

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series
Well, I guess Lost doesn’t exactly have a “Lead Actor” in the comedy department. And with guys like Steve Carell in The Office and Tony Shaloub in Monk, I’m afraid we wouldn’t win anyway.

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Again, come on Emmy people! We have two *outstanding* lead actors that have me on the edge of my seat every week! Matthew Fox and Josh Holloway should be in this catagory.
However, this is the catagory I’m looking forward to the most because I love all five of the guys nominated.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Just like the above catagory, Lost also has two fabulous lead actresses. Yunjin Kim, and Evangeline Lilly are two tough broads who can kick it with the guys and still look gorgeous even after many months on a deserted island. Isn’t that worth something?

Outstanding Reality-competition Program
Isn’t Lost very similar to a reality show? There are other island-based reality series where there is more drama than an acutal drama-series. I’m sure the cast of Lost has days they feel like they are on a reality show.

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Eventhough I have a strong feeling that Michael Imperioli is going to take this one, Lost has two nominations in the catagory, so our chances are pretty good.
Congrats and good luck to Terry O’Quinn. John is such an awesome character and I can’t wait to see what happens next season. And also to Michael Emerson. Ben is an evil, sinister SOB and we all *love* to hate him!
I really would have liked to see Dominick Monaghan in this catagory as well, this being his last season and all.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series
Elizabeth Mitchell gave us another character to love/hate last season. First we hated her, then we felt sorry for her, then we kinda maybe liked her, then we loved her, then we hated her again, then we ended the season just not knowing what to think about her…. whew! I think she did an awesome job as Juliet last season. Unfortunately she wasn’t nominated this year like her counterpart Ben was, but maybe we’ll see her here next year.

Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series
The fantastic team of Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are indeed nominated in this catagory for the Through the Looking Glass episode. Hooray! And good luck to them.

I’m skipping over a bunch of catagories here, but you get the picture. There’s so much Lost could have, and should have, been nominated for. I’ll still watch the Emmy’s, albeit a little grudgingly, and will hopefully report back to brag that Lost won all they were nominated for!

147 Days until Lost 4 Season Premier!
I know that tons of other television series are about to premier within the next few weeks, but stay strong! We can make it till February! Remember, they always save the best for last.
