The John Locke Foundation
This is totally not related to the series in any way (or is it?) but how uncanny is it for this foundation to be named after a very integral character of Lost? And how amusing it is to read through the foundation’s thrust and find this:
- The John Locke Foundation, North Carolina’s leading think tank, seeks to protect individual liberty and promote innovative solutions to the problems North Carolinians worry about most. One of the most pressing needs is to protect citizens’ property rights from North Carolina’s extreme annexation law. Right now municipalities can forcibly annex areas for just about any reason and without any oversight, let alone say-so from property owners. Occasionally, public hearings will be held, but they are a big sham since municipalities have no reason to care about what affected property owners say. Furthermore, even though the state Supreme Court has ruled that the primary purpose of forced annexation is for municipalities to provide meaningful services to the annexed areas, they usually don’t have to provide water and sewer services within two years. And municipalities can violate the law’s procedural requirements so long as a court finds that the violation does not “materially prejudice the substantive rights” of the property owners.

Please type “John Locke” into any search engine, or wikipedia. You will find that he is a very famous philosopher from England 1700s. This foundation was obviously named for him.
